The purpose of this one-of-a-kind facility was to concentrate pharmacy services from four acute care hospitals in Calgary into one building. We resolved a number of issues during the design process including, security of site and staff, electronic communications capabilities to ensure timely delivery to hospitals and complications of retrofitting a warehouse into a sterile environment. The design team included members and staff from the CHR Pharmacy which proved highly effective in resolving planning and design issues.
