Alexander Calhoun Public Library - Interior Renovation
Calgary, Alberta

The Calhoun Library was originally a wood frame building on a public park. Due to City Parks' regulations prohibiting the construction of another building on the park, it was decided to 'go underground' with a new building in response to specific needs and requirements of the client group.

This project won the Canadian Architect Award, as well as an Alberta Landscape award for its landscaping. Library services were not disrupted during the process, and the 9,000 sq. ft. facility was built well under budget. SAHURI + Partners Architecture Inc. recently completed upgrades to the library to reorganize the circulation counter and staff work room, modernize the lighting and upgrade the finishes within the branch.
