McKenzie Towne Fire Hall - Addition
Calgary, Alberta
Situated on a triangular lot forming one portion of a radial plan in the McKenzie Towne Development of southeast Calgary, the McKenzie Towne Fire Hall is sited to allow for the most efficient dispatch of fire trucks, but also to centre the west elevation on the long axis of McKenzie Towne Boulevard.
In keeping with the general architectural character of the neighbourhood, the McKenzie Towne Fire Hall's design and materials reflect an historic aesthetic sensibility. Within this recreated context, elements such as the cornice and dentils are historical in form, yet contemporary in material and construction. The entrances, public spaces, offices and dorms are on the south side to maximize the natural daylight penetration. The landscape design is intended to provide shade, screening devices and visual interest to the site. SAHURI + Partners are currently working on expanding this facility.
