Foothills Medical Centre PET CT Suite Renovation
Calgary, Alberta
In this 1,904 sf. renovation project, SAHURI was tasked as Prime Consultant to incorporate a new PET CT suite into the Foothill's Hospital's existing Diagnostic Imaging Department. New design strategies reconfigured and reallocated space within the existing Department rooms, such as the X-Ray Library, viewing room, and decommissioned bone density room.
Given the additional volume of patients that the improved Department would generate, additional consideration was necessary in planning the patient intake areas.
After completion in 2012, the $1.66 million project provided clearer circulation paths, smoother room adjacency, and more suitable equipment location. Our role included providing functional programming, space planning, design development, handling all documentation, and overseeing construction. The main challenge was to complete construction without disrupting ongoing operations of the adjacent services. To this end, we worked collaboratively with the user groups to meet a very tight schedule, while working within the constraints of an active hospital.
A balance was found between programmatic requirements, equipment requirements, and the available space. A careful decant strategy was developed so that construction could be carried out in sequence. As there was no flexibility in deadlines, the project was a true exercise in planning and was completed on schedule.
