Richmond Road Diagnostic & Treatment Centre Redevelopment
Calgary, Alberta
This project was a three-phase redevelopment of the former Alberta Children's Hospital, with SAHURI + Partners commissioned to lead the project through to completion of construction. The first phase, beginning in 2005, provided a building audit and feasibility study, which included analyzing the costs of consolidating and relocating some of the Regions' health programs into the facility.
This lead to the creation of a Master Plan for the new Richmond Road Diagnostic & Treatment Centre (RRDTC) - a 213,836 sf. outpatient care facility that encompasses tertiary-level outpatient care, diagnostic services, teaching, and research.
Based on the outcome of the first phase, it was determined that the Centre would be an outpatient care site only with no overnight stays and no inpatient beds. Project scope included the development of functional programs for the 19 Alberta Health Region approved programs and services planned for the RRDTC site. This involved test fitting and schematic block planning of the programmed space, identification of support service requirements, updating the development plan based on the approved scope of programs and services, and finally the construction phasing plan and schedule for the site.
Although construction of phase three was successfully completed in 2011, we have continued our work at Richmond Road with an additional 5,920 sf. renovation to accommodate Grief Services. Construction of this renovation was completed in March 2012.
