Consort Seniors Lodge
Consort, Alberta
This 116,000 sf. accessible facility is fully barrier free and has been designed based on the proven "aging in place" concept, which allows for a sliding degree of autonomy for resident seniors through the provision of a variety of suite sizes, styles, and programs.
The Lodge features a unique blend of modernized public amenity areas, and a new three-story building that houses self-contained suites and a combination of single (404 sf.) and double (550 sf.) occupancy units. The facility now houses 42 lodge units, four cottage units, and provision for an additional 15 units to be added in the future.
The design aimed at minimizing disruption to the existing Lodge during the construction process, and providing upgraded fire safety for residents and staff. Lodge units are joined together through a renovated single-story common amenities area which includes a large TV lounge with fireplace, tub rooms, games area, laundry facilities, exercise room, large dining room for residents and guests, family dining room for private resident functions, crafts room, beauty salon, chapel, communal storage rooms, and a commercial kitchen and laundry facilities for staff. Interior finishes and colours were selected to minimize ongoing maintenance costs while providing a clean and fresh appearance.
On-site provisions for scooter storage and resident parking are incorporated into the fully landscaped site that is complemented with a full-circle concrete walking path. Construction was completed in 2011 at $10.92 million.
