It functions as a Fire Station and the central Maintenance facility for the RMWB Fire Department, housing the Regional Emergency Operations Centre on the second floor, which coordinates disaster responses. The building features an angular exterior with functional and attractive cladding materials like Prodema, aluminum paneling, and metal siding. The training tower is clad in masonry for durability during rappel training and includes a stairwell for FireFit competitions. The facility's "spine" separates the four response vehicle bays from the maintenance bays and includes an indoor climbing wall. Durable interior finishes consist of coloured and polished concrete, rubber flooring, porcelain tile, and carpet tile. Overall, South Station is a key landmark for the community, ensuring safety and service for years to come.
