Woodsdale Park Visitor Centre Master Plan and Concept Study
Embracing the idea of wood first, the concept for the Woodsdale Visitor Centre, presents the idea of a forest in the park. The building itself is dematerialized by the stand of trees that surround it and creates a filter between the interior and exterior environments. This presents a real sense of entry to visitors who are only offered glancing views of the activities inside the building as they approach. On the interior, the fully glazed walls allow for a constant play of shadows from the surrounding trees, and the feeling of ‘building’ proper is further removed with the introduction of the undulating roof, an expression of the tree canopy. This 5,000 sq.ft. building stacks the fixed functions on one end of the building leaving a 3,500 sq.ft flexible hall available for a variety of programming.
